Pore Habit of Gas in Gassy Sediments

چکیده

Gas bubbles are widespread in seafloors and lakebeds typically found shallow fine-grained sediments. Sediment properties control gas nucleation migration. migration pathways have been studied mostly clean coarse particles or matrices. Nevertheless, both cases show very distinct geo-behaviors. Pore habit is defined by the counteracting effects of effective stress pore-throat-dependent capillary pressure. In this article, we explore CO2 exsolution its consequent gas-driven fractures (open-mode discontinuities) pore invasion binary sediments as a function fines content (FC). We conducted physical test analogies for different FC subjected to exsolution. Our results highlight that gassy depends on capability invade neighboring (capillarity) burial depth (effective stress). load dominant fraction soils can be used estimate throat size. then proposed robust methodology predict from recent developments soil behavior characterization. Finally, applied it real case offshore Vancouver Island.

Acoustic wave propagation in gassy porous marine sediments: The rheological and the elastic effects.

The preceding paper in this series [Mantouka, Dogan, White, and Leighton, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 140, 274-282 (2016)] presented a nonlinear model for acoustic propagation in gassy marine sediments, the baseline for which was established by Leighton [Geo. Res. Lett. 34, L17607 (2007)]. The current paper aims further advancement on those two studies by demonstrating the particular effects of the sed...

Experimental and Numerical Pore Scale Study of Residual Gas Saturation in Water/Gas Imbibition Phenomena

Residual gas saturation is one of the most important parameter in determining recovery factor of water-drive gas reservoir. Visual observation of processes occurring at the pore level in micromodels can give an insight to fluid displacements at the larger scale and also help the interpretation of production performance at reservoir scale. In this study experimental tests in a glass micromod...

Gas Void Fraction Estimation in Gassy Sand Sediment with Difference Frequency Wave Method

Nonlinearity parameter can be used for the estimation of the gas void fraction in gassy sand sediment. If two primary acoustic waves of different frequencies are incident on gassy sediment, nonlinear acoustic waves can be strongly generated at the difference frequency of the primary frequencies. Nonlinearity parameter of gassy sediment is related to the gas void fraction provided the primary fr...

Stable Isotope Tracing of Anaerobic Methane Oxidation in the Gassy Sediments of Eckernförde Bay, German Baltic Sea

Methane concentrations in the pore waters of Eckernförde Bay in the German Baltic Sea generally reach gas bubble saturation values within the upper meter of the sediment column. The depth at which saturation occurs is controlled by a balance between rates of methane production, consumption (oxidation), and transport. The relative importance of anaerobic methane oxidation (AMO) in controlling di...
